Steel spring found in a factory, bartered with Margo Poisson, 2023
This piece is the relic of a performative and non-commercial action initiated by the artist in the summer of 2023. For one week, the artist traveled across France on foot to barter with other artists, operating within an economy of limited means and resources.
The piece is composed of a solid beech carrying frame, to which a set of eclectic objects are tied with cords. There are white spheres, ready to be bartered, and about ten miscellaneous items resulting from past trades with other artists. These spheres contain fragments of various works made by the artist, later sealed with lead, turning them into mysterious and inviolable sarcophagi.
Tied to this frame are, among other treasures, a weathered wooden puppet once owned by Hervé Guibert—one of the only personal items he never photographed—the first sculpture of an artist made during an intergalactic trip, and a plastic crow named Albert. These objects may not be inherently artistic, but each carries a deeply personal story.
